# What You'll Need:

→ Tea Base

01 - 0.5 cup dried hibiscus flowers
02 - 4 cups water

→ Sweetener

03 - 0.25 cup granulated sugar
04 - 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup

06 - Ice cubes as needed
07 - Fresh mint leaves

# Method:

01 - Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan over high heat.
02 - Remove saucepan from heat and stir in dried hibiscus flowers. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes to extract full flavor and color.
03 - Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a heatproof pitcher. Discard the spent hibiscus flowers.
04 - Add sugar and honey or agave syrup while tea is still warm. Stir continuously until completely dissolved.
05 - Allow tea to reach room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour until thoroughly chilled.
06 - Fill glasses with ice cubes and lime slices. Pour chilled hibiscus tea over ice. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired and serve immediately.

# Insider Tips:

01 -
  • The color alone makes this drink worth making, turning an ordinary afternoon into something that feels festive and bright
  • That perfect tangy sweet balance wakes up your palate better than coffee ever could on hot days
02 -
  • Oversteeping the flowers makes the tea unpleasantly bitter, so set a timer and do not try to extract more flavor by leaving them in longer
  • The color stains everything it touches, including countertops and light colored clothing, so handle with the same care you would give to beet juice
03 -
  • If you can find hibiscus flowers with their tiny green centers still attached, they have a more complex flavor profile than the plain petals
  • A pinch of salt enhances the floral notes in the same way it does for chocolate, but be careful not to make it detectable
